diversity of merozoite surface protein-3β gene of plasmodium vivax isolates from iran

چکیده
background: plasmodium vivax malaria accounts for approximately 88% of malaria cases in iran. there is limited information on genetic diversity of p. vivax in the country and a need to develop and apply an effective vaccine against the disease is necessary. among many potential candidates, msp -3β gene is promising target. this study was designed and carried out to determine the variation of this gene as genetic marker in population of malarious areas of iran. methods: blood sample of 85 p. vivax isolates from four southern and east-southern provinces of the country assessed for polymorphism of p v msp-3β gene by pcr/rflp method. results: based on the size of pcr product of the gene, 7 genetically different types of parasite has been distinguished. two alleles were simultaneously visible in 19 % of the cases. results from pcr/rflp analysis of p v msp-3β gene showed at least 15 allelic groups. multiple infections have been found in 2.4 % of the cases. conclusion: p v msp-3β gene was highly diverse in p. vivax isolates of malarious areas of iran, and can be a suitable marker for population genetic studies of p. vivax. more investigations on pvmsp-3β genes are needed to reveal genetic structure of p. vivax in iran.

background: approximately 85-90% of malaria infections in iran are attributed to plasmodium vivax , while little is known about the genetic of the parasite and its strain types in this region. this study was designed and performed for describing genetic characteristics of plasmodium vivax population of iran based on the merozoite surface protein-3α gene sequence. methods: through a descriptive ...
متن کاملAllelic Forms of Merozoite Surface Protein-3 in Plasmodium falciparum Isolates From Southeast of Iran
BACKGROUND Genetic diversity has provided Plasmodium falciparum with the potential capacity of avoiding the immune response, and possibly supported the natural selection of drug or vaccine-resistant parasites. Merozoite surface protein-3 (MSP-3) has been used to develop vaccines and investigate the genetic diversity regarding P. falciparum malaria in Iran. OBJECTIVES The main goal of this stu...
متن کاملMolecular genetic characterization of the merozoite surface protein 1 Gene of Plasmodium vivax from reemerging Korean isolates.
Plasmodium vivax merozoite surface protein 1 (PvMSP-1) has been considered a major candidate for the development of an antimalaria vaccine, but the molecule exhibits antigenic diversity among isolates. The extent of genetic polymorphism in the region between interspecies conserved blocks 4 and 5 (ICB4 and ICB5) of the PvMSP-1 gene was analyzed for 30 Korean isolates. Two genotypes, SK-A and SK-...
